NYETI will soon offer the new EPA Lead Renovator (RRP) Courses. The new EPA rule takes effect on April 22nd, 2010. Certification is required for all home improvement activity that disturbs more than 6 square feet of interior or 20 square feet of exterior lead paint in housing built before 1978, and in any child-occupied facility. Renovation firms must have at least one certified Renovator who has completed training and obtained certification from EPA and a firm certification from EPA. Students who have already completed lead safe work practices, abatement supervisor, or worker certification can attend a half-day refresher. The course teaches safe work practices to renovators, remodelers, painters, carpenters, and those who regularly disturb lead-based paint. The course covers topics on containment, minimization, and cleanup of lead hazards. Upon successful completion of the course, students are issued a certificate of course completion with an EPA license.
